![]() ![]() Since 1994, South Africa has been a Constitutional multiparty democracy. Currently the president is Jacob Zuma. He has been in office Since June 2012 with Kgalema Motlanthe as the Deputy President. The president is elected by the National Assembly to help lead the country to unity according to the Constitution and law. The country also has a hotline where people call in their queries. Out of the 111,751 received since September 2009 to February 2012, a total of 84,700 have been resolved. South Africa’s Constitution, which was signed by Nelsom Mendla on December 10, 1996, is the most highly acclaimed and most progressive as well. It speaks about healing the country, improving life, and having a strong foundation for their democratic country with equality. Since 1994, the country has been working on five important things. These things are related to health, rural development, food security and land reform; and the fight against crime and corruption. For each province, there are Premiers who are in charge of agriculture, gambling, education, housing, public services and development. Premiers are elected by the 30-80 legislature members. In 1912, during a national liberation movement the African National Congress (ANC) was formed. The ANC strived to bring political, economic and social change. They have come a long ways and on January 8, 2012, they celebrated 100 years of existence. |
