![]() ![]() Many refer to South Africa as the Rainbow Nation. I wouldn’t argue. With over 52 million people, I expect diversity when it comes to language, religions and cultures. South African’s make up 79.2% of the population , white and colored making up 8.9%, Indian/Asian make up 2.5% and the rest are the other that make up .5% of the population. Since their democratic independence, South Africa has had 3 census in 1994, 1996 and then the latest one in 2011. Even though the population is growing, the population growth rate is -.051%. This makes the birth rate higher than birth rate but not emigration rate.About 8 million people living in South Africa are illegal immigrants. Birth rate is 19.14births/1,000 population, while the death rate is 17.36 deaths/1,000 populations. When it comes to Urbanization, urban population is 62% and the rate is 1.2% rate of change. The Fertility rate in South Africa is 2.25 children born per women. And Infant Mortality rate is 42.15 deaths per 1,000 born. An estimated of 45.9 males deaths per 1,000 live births and 38.33 females die per 1,000 deaths. South Africa is made up of four groups of people, they are as follows; The Nguni, (comprising the Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele and Swazi people) The Sotho-Tswana, (who include the Southern, Northern and Western Sotho), The Tsonga, The Venda.
